The Credit Review Bill 2024 seeks to establish a new body, known as An tSeirbhís um Athbhreithniú Creidmheasa, to oversee and conduct reviews of credit decisions affecting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and farmers. This Act aims to enhance the transparency and fairness of credit provision by reviewing lending practices and ensuring compliance with established guidelines. It outlines the appointment of a chief executive officer, designated the Credit Reviewer, who will serve as the accounting officer and manage the body’s operations.

Additionally, the Bill sets out provisions regarding the rights, responsibilities, and accountabilities of the Service and the Credit Reviewer, including the ability to conduct reviews, engage consultants, and respond to Oireachtas committee inquiries. It further introduces regulations for credit review fees and a levy to fund the Service's activities, ensuring that operational expenses are met while safeguarding borrower interests.
